It’s what’s on the outside that counts: looking nine meters above the pine peaks of the northern Black Forest and at the same time forgetting everyday life – during a sauna session – it not only sounds great, it’s terrific. We introduce you to five of our favorite saunas in Germany, which not only warm your heart with the infusion, but also with the view!
We are guaranteed to open a barrel for this topic! Namely the sauna barrel in the beautiful Hearts Hotel in Braunlage. Why? Because it’s somehow rustic and super cool to sit and sweat with your best friends in the sauna barrel in front of the photogenic hotel. Maybe even with a Prosecco in hand and a view of nature! It doesn’t always have to be thousands of square meters of wellness area to really relax. That’s why we can warmly recommend the Hearts Hotel’s “Fasssauna”.
Northern Black Forest
The high seat sauna at the Hotel Berlin KroneLamm, located in Bad Teinach-Zavelstein in the northern Black Forest is most definitely high up! Since the end of 2019, the 85-degree Celsius sauna has not only invited you to sweat, but also to enjoy the phenomenal view nine meters up. In order to feel even closer to the seemingly endless Black Forest peaks of the Teinachtal, the guests rest on wooden benches and enjoy the regular aromatic infusions with pine needle oil. The covered fresh air relaxation area in front of the sauna and the outdoor pool, which is only a few steps away, provide the necessary cooling in between.
The 25hours Hotel The Circle in Cologne’s Gereonsviertel is an experience in itself with spaced-out interior in a wonderful location. There is something to discover in every corner of the space and it feels like half the nation has already been photographed in the photogenic elevator. Of course, we did this as well! But a real highlight is the sauna of the trendy hotel on the top floor with a view of Cologne’s ultimate sanctuary, the cathedral! We can’t recommend this enough.
Prien am Chiemsee
First, relax at a comfortable 85 degrees and then off into the refreshing Bavarian Sea: The outdoor sauna of thePrienavera adventure pool in Prien am Chiemsee not only has exclusive access to the lake with a jetty, but also an impressive view of the Chiemgau Alps and Herrenchiemsee Castle. Wellness fans can also enjoy a Mediterranean sauna garden, airy sun terraces, cozy well-being areas, a traditional Finnish log cabin sauna and much more. Wellness treatments and massages such as the Lomilomi Nui or Balinese, along with breuss and other aromatic oil massages, complete the feel-good experience with a view of the lake.
The turquoise-blue, 70-meter-long natural bathing pond, “Kleiner Wasgausee”, sits in the forest and meadow area of the Pfalzblick Wald Spa Resort. Those seeking relaxation can enjoy the panoramic view of the garden paradise and the original nature of the Palatinate Forest in the resort’s the Finnish sauna.
Also, did you know that the Palatinate Forest is the largest contiguous forest area in Germany? Forest bathing takes on a whole new meaning here. We therefore recommend rounding off the wellness experience in the cozy steam grotto or in the modern forest sauna. Between sauna sessions, take a dip in the natural bathing pond, an ice fountain or one of the numerous adventure showers to ensure you cool off. Both in the outdoor sauna island and in the newly opened panorama house, guests can relax in the spacious relaxation areas and cozy corners on water beds or floating loungers or take a dip in the new, year-round heated infinity pool, the “Sprudelwoog”.
