New hotel openings in Germany in spring 2024

Oops, how is it April already? The year has only just begun! With the new year comes all kinds of new hotel openings. We’ve picked out some of the highlights for you. Maybe you’ll be able to stay in one of them on your next city trip. Here are five new hotels in spring 2024.

sly Berlin

Where is it?

In Friedrichshain, less than three kilometers from Ostbahnhof and just a stone’s throw from the Volkspark Friedrichshain, you’ll find the Sly Berlin. Together with Kreuzberg, the East Berlin district forms the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, the hip epicenter in the already hip capital.

How many rooms?

150 rooms of various sizes

What about the interior?

The Sly is housed in a total of four former factory buildings. Anyone expecting crumbling bricks, exposed concrete and bare pipes is very much mistaken. The 150 rooms have been chicly and stylishly refurbished: bare parquet flooring, subtle colors, fine natural stone, witty design elements by Louis Poulsen or Carl Hansen. And above all, wonderfully high windows that let in light, light, light! Is there anything more beautiful than the bright morning sun dancing into the room through white curtains?

Food and drinks?

A good place to start is the hotel’s own restaurant with integrated bar. Housed in an almost 300 square meter glass house, you are spoilt for choice here: fine delicacies such as truffle pasta or miso cod or would you prefer a hearty cut from the Robata grill? Head chef Matthias Meier has the right dish for every taste. And in the evening, you can socialize at the well-equipped hotel bar – a real eye-catcher with its green granite and fancy red tiles.

What to do?

Quite a lot! Just a few minutes’ walk away is the Velodrom, one of Berlin’s largest event halls, where top-class stars regularly play concerts. The aforementioned Volkspark Friedrichshain is also the oldest green space in the capital where you can relax. And towards Ostbahnhof you will find the famous East Side Gallery and the now no less famous Berghain. You simply can’t have Berlin without techno.

Avani Frankfurt City

Where is it?

Right in the middle of Europe’s never-resting financial center. Just a few minutes’ walk from the Konstablerwache and the shopping street Zeil, only 25 minutes’ drive from the airport, you’ll find the Avani Frankfurt City. The best location for exploring the bustling metropolis at the river Main.

How many rooms?

256 rooms and suites

What about the interior?

Design, pop culture, elegance. While the rooms in the Avani shine with a restrained but not boring business look with occasional splashes of color, the public areas are twice as gaudy. The reception is decorated with framed vinyl records, wall panels with a jukebox look, loudspeakers in the catering corner, record players, gramophones and disco balls as decorative elements – it’s clear that music is key! The furnishings commemorate Frankfurt’s past as a techno hotspot in the 1980s. And with style.

Food and drinks?

In the hotel itself, a grab-and-go deli provides you with everything you need for a small or medium appetite throughout the day. Culinary delights are plentiful in Frankfurt’s old town, just a few minutes to the south. In addition to home-style, hearty home cooking – the regional specialties Grüne Soß (green sauce) and Ebbelwoi (regional cider) are a must at least once! – you will also find authentic and, above all, delicious Italian restaurants here. And in the evening, you should enjoy one, two or even three drinks in one of the rooftop bars in Frankfurt’s city center – at least when the temperatures are right. All those skyscrapers must be good for something.

What to do?

Get to know the culture and history of one of Germany’s most exciting cities, for example! The Paulskirche in Frankfurt’s old town is a real piece of German democracy. A first German parliament met here in 1848. The Old Town is also very attractive in other respects, especially the lavishly restored part around the Hühnermarkt. If you want to get to know hip Frankfurt, simply cross the Main to Sachsenhausen.

Moxy Bochum

Where is it?

In western Germany, in the pearl of the Ruhr region: Bochum. And quite central here too, opposite the time-honored Ruhrstadion, home of the no less time-honored VFL Bochum and in the immediate vicinity of the Ruhrkongress and Starlight Express. What more can you expect from this location?

How many rooms?

177 rooms

What about the interior?

Moxy hotels are usually colorful, gaudy and don’t take themselves too seriously. And the Moxy Bochum is no exception. The lobby and dining area are filled with smaller and larger decorative elements and numerous different seating elements. Vintage car eye-catchers adorn the elevator doors ,James Bond greets guests at reception, and a friendly and intense choice of colors is just as typical of the concept as large-scale graffiti.

The rooms, on the other hand, are somewhat simpler in terms of color, but are no less friendly and inviting. The light wooden furniture gives the accommodation a pleasantly open feel, while the lattice wardrobe and comfortable seating impress with their tried-and-tested Moxy playfulness. Despite its central location, the Moxy promises relaxing moments in the midst of the hustle and bustle with its balanced mix of form and function. After an exciting day in the city, you can also relax and work out in the hotel gym. For those looking for the celebrity factor: Barber Iskandar, where numerous VfL Bochum professionals regularly have their hair styled, is located directly in the Moxy.

Food and drinks?

The in-house bar “The Now” provides you with cold, hot and liquid treats and snacks. Bigger appetites can be satisfied in the restaurant, which offers an international menu. If you want to go outside, we recommend the Italian “Trattoria Momo” opposite (reservation recommended). After a short walk, you are also in Bochum’s city center, where you have a wide choice from iconic snack bars to upscale cuisine. Our tip: take the slightly longer route to the legendary Bermuda3eck and try the most famous currywurst in Germany at the Bratwursthaus.

What to do?

Cheering on the locals of the VfL Bochum is practically obligatory (or, shhh, the visiting team). Bochum are holding their own in the Bundesliga and are a team close to many people’s hearts. All you have to do is walk over to the stadium from your hotel and then walk back again later. Basketball fans also get their money’s worth: In the Rundsporthhalle, right next to the stadium, the VfL SparkassenStars Bochum provide thrills in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA.

The Starlight Express and the events at the Ruhrcongress are also just a few steps away from the hotel. Also, the Bermuda3eck should be mentioned. The small area between Bochum’s Südring and the track access road has been a cultural hotspot since the 1980s and attracts visitors with its numerous bars, restaurants and pubs. The music festival Bochum Total takes place here in summer and the renowned Bochum Schauspielhaus theater is also not far away. A stay at the Moxy will never be boring.

How many rooms?

15 individually designed apartments

What about the interior?

Art and culture wherever you look. The Engelwirt apartments are located in the listed former bailiff’s estate in Berching, with two parts built in 1686 and two contemporary buildings. Accordingly, filigree stucco ceilings, masterful rose pointed floors and painted wooden floors dominate the picture. This is rounded off by contemporary decorative objects and paintings, with which the owners Stephanie and Michael Zink want to turn the Engelwirt into a real art retreat.

Food and drinks?

A delicious, regional breakfast is served in the hotel’s own lounge. The bread roll service also delivers fresh bread rolls to the apartment door every day on request. In addition to self-catering, it is also worth taking a short walk into the old town, which is well worth a visit anyway, and where no stomach should be left empty thanks to a number of traditional inns, breweries and beer gardens.

What to do?

Nature lovers will get their money’s worth in and around Berching. The small town is the perfect starting and finishing point for extensive hikes and bike tours. The picturesque Sulztal valley is lined with small, quaint villages and places to stop for refreshments – for example the Benedictine Abbey of Plankstetten or Hirschberg Castle in Beilngries.

Ramada Encore by Windham Munich Messe

Where is it?

The name gives it away: the Ramada Encore is a trade fair hotel and is therefore relatively close to the Munich Trade Fair. Five minutes by car, a quarter of an hour by public transport. But that doesn’t mean you’re far away from the action. It’s a good 20 minutes by car to the main train station and a good half hour by public transport. For a metropolis like Munich, we think these are still reasonable times.

How many rooms?

366 rooms

What about the interior?

Of course, the Ramada Encore is a trade fair hotel. So you can’t expect the really big luxury here, but rather functionality. But even here there is no shortage of amenities. Room sizes vary from four-bed rooms to single rooms with a queen-size bed. The clear and uncluttered furnishings are supported by subtle color accents, but always look professional. The lobby and restaurant are also bright and colorful.

Food and drinks?

In the hotel itself, you can help yourself to the extensive breakfast buffet until 10 am. Apart from that, the hotel and the immediate surroundings are rather sparse. But it doesn’t matter, because you can get to the exhibition grounds quickly by public transport, where you can find all kinds of snack bars and – in the other direction – the heart of Munich with all its beer gardens, posh restaurants and breweries.

What to do?

If you want to treat yourself to a little peace and quiet in the countryside between the trade fair and Bavarian culture, head for Riemer Park to the south of the trade fair – the third largest park in the state capital with an area of more than 510 acres. The park was opened in 2005 on the occasion of the Federal Garden Show. If you are looking for a more upmarket sporting activity, you will find the Munich Riem Golf Club just a few kilometers north of the hotel – in the middle of a racecourse.
