Michelangelo in Hamburg

Hamburg is a city for art lovers. Numerous museums dominate the city’s cultural scene and a weekend trip to the Elbe is rarely boring. But from June 28, you can also admire art that is unusual in these latitudes in the Hanseatic city: Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel comes to Hamburg.

There are some works of art that you simply have to see at least once in your life. However, this is not always so easy, as the greatest art treasures of mankind are spread across the globe. But in the case of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, the motto “If the prophet won’t come to the mountain, the mountain will come to the prophet” applies.

For those who find the Vatican too far away, they will only have to travel as far as Hamburg from June 28. There you can see the work of art of the century in the Kulturkirche Altona. Well, not in the original, of course. Instead, the breathtaking frescoes by the Renaissance artist have been photographed with state-of-the-art cameras and reproduced in their original size.

Great art without a stiff neck

The advantage of this method: when viewing the pictures in Hamburg, you can get much closer to the works of art and can therefore see even the smallest details. What’s more, you don’t strain your neck like you would if you were looking at a ceiling fresco. Thanks to the exhibition venue, the necessary sacred character is nevertheless retained.
