Lying around on vacation isn’t your thing? Then these three destinations in Germany are the best bike trails for you. Relaxed paths and challenging trails meet high peaks, spectacular views, and picturesque old towns in these places. And there are sights to see too!
On Two Wheels Through Paradise: Pfronten in the Allgäu
No matter the season, the mountains are still calling! Instead of on two boards, sports enthusiasts conquer the slopes in snow-free seasons on two wheels. For example, in Pfronten in the Allgäu region. Designated mountain bike trails lead along breathtaking panoramas, green valleys, and picturesque landscapes. Time and again, rustic mountain huts invite you to take a break in the sun.

Particularly ambitious cyclists choose the MTB marathon route (this way for the website). The seven-hour tour starts at the valley station on Breitenberg and leads 50 kilometers through the mountain landscape of Pfronten. A little too much of a good thing? Of course, the ride can also be divided into several sections, such as the twelve-kilometer route from Himmelreich to Bärenmoosalpe.

Happiness on Two Wheels: Albstadt in the Swabian Alb
Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie, a novice cyclist, or a leisurely bike tourist, Albstadt is an absolute paradise for sports enthusiasts. An extensive network of trails totaling 90 kilometers offers plenty of variety. While relaxed cyclists enjoy cozy rest stops and picturesque viewpoints, off-road riders choose the “Cube Rocks”. The fast-paced circuit in the south of Albstadt thrills with challenging single trails. But beginners, children, and teens also get their money’s worth! A new running circuit with three trails and different ground conditions is perfect for trying out new techniques and learning new skills.

Extreme Experience on Two Wheels: Fichtel Mountains
The 270-kilometer “Eger Cycle Route” along the Czech border requires endurance. It starts at the 1,051-meter-high Schneeberg in the Fichtel Mountains. The route leads from the source of the Eger to the mouth of the river. Along the way, cyclists discover the extensive floodplain landscape in Wunsiedel and take a break in the beautiful spa town of Weißenstadt. A stroll through the picturesque old town with its cozy inns and cafés provides new energy. A refreshing dip in Lake Weißenstadt provides cooling relief. The route continues through narrow valleys and wild nature to Roslau. Cyclists are rewarded with the Zwölfgipfelblick viewpoint.

Then it’s time for some culture! The next stage features old hammer mills, Hohenberg Castle, and the “Porzellanikon”. The museum shows the history of porcelain in the Fichtel Mountains. Finally, we leave Germany and reach Czechia. Here, the “Eger Cycle Route” merges with the “Ohře Cycle Route” and leads to historic Karlovy Vary. The spa town is the ideal place to relax a little and reminisce about the trip.
