1, 2 or 3: Berlin has it all – top restaurants with Michelin stars in all categories. No other German city can boast 21 Michelin-starred restaurants. We present the stars that light up Berlin’s gourmet heaven.
Vegetables with meaty flavors, desserts of boundless beauty and creations that look like works of art: Berlin’s culinary scene scores with its inventiveness. Like the city itself, the Michelin-starred restaurants in Berlin are authentic, colorful, and creative. To help the gourmets among us get an overview of where the finest flavors meet the palate, we have compiled all of Berlin’s Michelin-starred restaurants at a glance.
Bonvivant
Awards: 1 Michelin star, 2 black Gault&Millau toques
Large, circular works of art on the walls – which, by the way, can be designed by guests at Brunch & Art – blend into the elegant, plant-rich interior. You immediately notice that the Bonvivant design concept makes your visit a very special experience, not only in culinary terms but also in terms of atmosphere. The cuisine is exclusively vegetarian and vegan. Whether brunch or dinner, with the right flair for exciting combinations, expertise, and a willingness to experiment with local products, the kitchen team gives its creations a soul.
The restaurant also impresses with its exquisite cocktail menu: here it foams, there it steams, and everywhere you look, bright color combinations leap out at you in elegant cocktail glasses. If you don’t visit, you’ll miss out on what is arguably the most unique cocktail experience far and wide. Fine dining, brunch, cocktails, and art – a successful concept!
Hallmann & Klee
Awards: 1 Michelin star, 3 black Gault&Millau toques
The latest star in Berlin’s top gastronomy shines over Neukölln: Sophia Hallmann has been cooking up happiness for Berliners since 2016. This year, she was awarded her first star for her restaurant Hallmann & Klee. A lot has happened since it opened: the former breakfast café is now only open in the evenings and serves classics from around the world, maintaining a focus on regionality and all bearing Sarah’s clear, minimalist signature. Today, with her fine dining concept, she is among the top chefs who demonstrate a pioneering spirit and combine sensitive culinary art with engaging hospitality.
Like the interior, the menu is also puristic and clean. “Honest, good cuisine” is the motto. In the simple, modern ambience, dishes are prepared from local products from small artisan manufacturers. Sommelière Patricia Lee knows exactly which wine goes best with the fine dishes.
Restaurant Tim Raue
Awards: 2 Michelin stars, 5 black Gault&Millau toques
Tim Raue is a star in his field. His restaurant of the same name made it onto the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” list for the first time in 2016 and has since maintained a place in the top 50. With his Asian-inspired cuisine, which can be characterized as a combination of Japanese product perfection, Thai flavors, and Chinese culinary philosophy, the native Berliner pursues a unique concept.
Bread, pasta, rice, or white sugar? Nowhere to be found – the menu is light and avoids ingredients that would get in the way of the balanced flavors. The Kolibri x Berlin menu pays homage to the chef’s hometown. Familiar childhood classics meet a distinctive Asian-influenced world of spices, combining sweetness, spiciness, and acidity. The Koi menu is an exciting collection of fascinating Asian-inspired dishes that Tim Raue has brought back from his travels. In addition to the menu, Raue’s signature dishes such as Wasabi Norway lobster and duck Marie-Anne can be ordered. In the vegan menu, typical Tim Raue creations are presented in their vegan adaptation.
Horváth
Awards: 2 Michelin stars, 1 Green Star, 5 black Gault&Millau toques
At Horváth, Kreuzberg charm meets award-winning cuisine: on the lively Paul-Linke-Ufer, Horváth graces the vibrant cityscape. Sebastian Frank breaks with convention in a very nonchalant way and describes his finesse as “emancipated vegetable cuisine”. You can almost always taste his Austrian homeland. However, completely without meat: the purely vegetarian menu combines the power and flavors of vegetables and fruits that are on par with those of meat. Strong spices, which bring flavor, consistency and texture, make no animal meat missing.
With Frank’s bookable signature dishes, the menu gets an individual twist that you won’t find anywhere else: Sellerie Reif & Jung and Suppengrün Seleskowitz are part of the genuine Horváth experience. As a member of “Die Gemeinschaft”, the restaurant is committed to a responsible approach to food and its producers and has been awarded a Green Star for its sustainable approach.
FACIL
Awards: 2 Michelin stars, 4 black Gault&Millau toques
High up on the fifth floor of the Mandala Hotel, you would almost forget that you are in the middle of bustling Berlin when you dine in the chic, airy roof garden restaurant FACIL. Thanks to the all-round glazing, connoisseurs can enjoy the feeling of being outdoors. The culinary delights on offer are in a class of their own: with the right amount of creativity, the team led by executive chef Michael Kempf brings out the best in the ingredients in the 5- to 8-course menus. Whether you opt for the sophisticated lunch or timeless dinner, the two well-deserved stars melt on your tongue with every bite.
It’s best to let the culinary impressions sink in first: sensationally piled dishes that are actually too beautiful to eat. Vegetables, meat, fish and fruit are presented in their most beautiful form. The balance of refreshing elements in light elegance with Asian and Mediterranean accents creates a flood of flavors that almost overwhelms even the most discerning palate.
Rutz
Awards: 3 Michelin stars, 1 Green Star, 5 black Gault&Millau toques
The Rutz is the only restaurant in Berlin to have earned three stars, a Green Star, and five black Gault&Millau toques. In 2007, the Rutz wine bar, as it was then, received its first star, followed almost ten years later by the second and in 2020 by the third. What makes Marco Müller’s inspired menu so special is that it is the result of a constant pursuit of perfection, with each dish bearing his own signature. He consistently maintains a clear style that is full of complexity. He seemingly effortlessly processes only the best products, placing equal emphasis on sustainability, visual sophistication and taste authenticity.
In close collaboration with the producers, he is constantly searching for the freshest ingredients from selected sources. Whether it’s Wagyu beef from Germany, squid from the North Sea or rabbit tartare, even experienced gourmets can let themselves be catapulted into the culinary stratosphere by Müller’s inventiveness in a six- or eight-course menu.
Stars are also raining down here
Berlin’s top chefs are doing a great job! Cookies Cream, Bricole, ernst, GOLVET, SKYKITCHEN, tulus lotrek, Irma la Douce, Hugos, faelt, Bieberbau and prism each have one star. So do Brandol sur mer and Nobelhart & Schmutzig, which have also been awarded a green star.
If you want to be pampered by other two-star restaurants, visit the Lorenz Adlon dining room or the CODA dessert dining – the only pure dessert restaurant in Germany.
