The Black Forest region is appreciated for its more than 24,000 kilometers of hiking trails through dense Black Forest fir trees, along streams, over vineyards and through tranquil villages. The best conditions for combining this beauty with other culinary highlights that can be perfectly combined with extended hiking food tours. Here are some of them:
Four-course meal at 1,000 meters above sea level
A four-course meal with a view over the Black Forest to the Rhine valley? Sounds too good to be true – but it is! The renowned Relais&Châteaux Hotel and its two-star restaurant Le Pavillon are enthroned at an altitude of 1,000 meters on the Dollenberg in Bad Peterstal-Griesbach. In summer, the team led by head chef Martin Herrmann makes the most of the restaurant’s altitude with the “Tischlein deck dich” (“Lay your table”) offer: it stages a panoramic four-course menu in the open air, accompanied by excellent wines. As a rule, you can enjoy this culinary flight of fancy from May to October, weather permitting, every Wednesday from 10 a.m. The cost is 85 euros per person, including wine accompaniment.
A rucksack full of regional treasures
The people of the Black Forest know very well that many guests come to hike because of the scenic landscape – and want the hikers to be well looked after. The Elzacher Feinschmecker-Tour starts with an aperitif at the Gasthaus Rössle, where participants can also fill their hiking rucksacks according to their wishes – whether vegan or with specialties from Elzach butchers and cheese dairies, sourdough bread, regional wines, beer or non-alcoholic drinks. At the end, the four-course tavern menu awaits in the Rössle. The whole thing costs 85 euros per person for two or more people.
The Harmersbacher Vesperweg is similarly enjoyable: The 14.5-kilometre circular trail with unusual resting places such as a tree-trunk bench or a Hollywood swing leads around the village resort of Oberharmersbach. At Markus Schwarz’s “Donissi Hofladen” farm store, you can fill your rucksack with regional specialties.
Biederbach tapas make you hungry for more!
The Biederbach tapas tour brings España to the Black Forest! The picturesque Black Forest village of Biederbach near Elzach in the “ZweiTälerLand” region is perfect for exploring at walking pace on numerous hiking trails. Tapas enthusiasts will fall into raptures when they take a breather: Unlike what you might be familiar with, the tapas on the tour have a Black Forest character. The small bites are seasonally changing creations in the Black Forest style, created by the Biederbach inns. The eleven to fourteen-kilometre day tour includes three tapas stops of your choice, which can be put together individually at a price of 79 euros per person (excluding drinks). Included in the price are three Black Forest tapas per stop as well as tour planning and information material.
Eat, hike, eat, hike from Bad Krozingen to Münstertal
We hike on with relish: this time from Bad Krozingen to the Münstertal. On the hike through the gentle hilly landscape between the Black Forest and the Vosges mountains, there are five gourmet stops spread over eleven kilometers: A small breakfast to start, then a croissant with a hot drink, a reward of Münstertäler farmhouse bread with Bibeleskäs cheese with Pinot Blanc or homemade lemonade, then a salad plate and a homemade ice cream to finish. The offer costs 39.90 euros per person, can be booked until October 27, 2024 and can be completed daily from Wednesday to Sunday on foot or by bike.
A (Black Forest) cherry on the cake: picnic with a vineyard view
In the midst of greenery with the scent of summer and the taste of grapes on your tongue: the picnic at the Mondhalde viewpoint, one of the most beautiful picnic spots along the Baden Wine Route, and the “Breisacher Vesper Backpack” make it possible. With its delicacies from the Breisach region and, of course, a bottle of Baden wine, it combines enjoyment and the ambience of summer. Cost: 30 euros, including dishes for two people.
