Mugs in the air! Five beer gardens in Munich

text
Lisa-Kristin Erdt

The largest, most beautiful and most traditional beer gardens in Germany are to be found in their home region of Bavaria. Even outside of the Oktoberfest season, the best Bavarian beer flows freely here, accompanied by a “Brotzeitbrettl” or a “hoibes Hendl”, while brass band music makes its way through the rows of beer benches. We know the best places for swaying in the open air – so raise your beer mugs in the beer gardens of Munich!

Royal Hirschgarten: enjoy the summer in Europe’s largest beer garden

We set the bar high right from the start – with the largest beer garden in Europe! From the first ray of sunshine, the people of Munich gather in their beloved Hirschgarten with its 8,000 seats. Despite the hustle and bustle, the atmosphere here is cozy and informal because, in keeping with beer garden tradition, you can bring your own food and enjoy a tasty “Maß” of Augustiner on tap. Those who prefer to reach for the menu will find all the popular Bavarian delicacies such as grilled chicken, oven-fresh pretzels or “Auszogne”. After the fun for your stomach, you should definitely make time for a visit to the fallow deer enclosure next door!

Freshly tapped beer in the family-run Hofbräukeller

Welcome to the Hofbräukeller! In the beer garden on Munich Wiener Platz, in the middle of Haidhausen, it’s not just the cool Hofbräu beer that helps you endure the summer temperatures, but also the ancient chestnut trees. Since mid-March, guests have been able to enjoy the deeply rooted tradition of the Hofbräuhaus beer garden every day when the weather is fine. And if the weather doesn’t work out, the rustic pub quickly makes you forget the rain.

For Oktoberfest fans: since this year, treats from the confectionery stall have been creating a funfair atmosphere in the Hofbräukeller. From gingerbread hearts and sugar pearl necklaces to roasted almonds and stomach bread, everything is on offer. Still need a place to stay? We know where.

Enjoy the view at Seehaus Kuffler in the English Garden

Relaxing in the countryside, right by the water – yes, we’re still in the big city of Munich! “Seehaus Kuffler” in the English Garden is beautifully and quietly situated under dense chestnut trees in front of the restaurant “Seehaus”. In the middle of the English Garden, you have the feeling of looking out over the water somewhere in the idyllic surroundings. Now for a freshly tapped Paulaner and a crisp pretzel? Let’s go to the “Seehaus Kuffler”!

Right in the middle: the beer garden of the Max Emanuel Brewery

The beer garden of the Max Emanuel Brewery is hidden behind the front of the pub in the middle of Munich’s city center. The new owners have given the menu of the traditional pub a new look with vegan creations. A shady spot with hearty food and cool beer is sometimes all Munich locals and guests need on warm days. Cozy wooden furniture, the best Munich beer, sparkling spritz and wine spritzers from stone mugs make the beer garden a rustic experience in the evening – and also at any other time of day!

Address: Nordendstraße 4, 80799 Munich
Opening hours (weather permitting): Monday to Friday from 17:00 to 22:30, Saturday from 12:00 to 22:30, Sunday 12:00 to 22:00

Unique view in the beer garden at the Chinese Tower

Have you ever had a beer in the open air with a view of the Chinese Tower? Admittedly, that’s a bit special, but the beer garden at the Chinese Tower makes it possible! The unique combination of beer garden flair and Chinese influence is definitely worth a visit. In this wonderful ambience, the beer mugs finally clink again after the gray winter. And the varied menu also demands to be served: There is a large kitchen in the beer garden where everything is freshly prepared.
