Winter in Munich Is So Beautiful

Winter has the country firmly in its grip, and the Bavarian capital is no exception. But despite all the snow, exercise in the fresh air is important! So here are a few places where Munich shows itself at its best during a winter walk.

Stroll Along The Most Beautiful Part Of The Isar

The section of the Isar from Gasteig to Wittelsbacher Bridge is certainly one of the most beautiful, especially when snow gently covers the roofs of the city. The path leads past the Rosengarten, the Kabelsteg, and several bridges from the imperial era. Incidentally, they all make for wonderful photo opportunities. Our tip: Start or end your walk with a detour to Prater Island and the newly designed Alpine Museum.

Stroll Through The Magnificent Maxvorstadt

Maxvorstadt is perfect for strolling and wandering – even in winter. No wonder, since the district was created from scratch by Ludwig II to put Munich on a par with other European metropolises. As a result, the art district is home to 16 museums and 40 galleries, including the Pinakotheken, the Lenbachhaus, and the Museum Brandhorst. And thanks to its proximity to the university and the accompanying student cafés, there is always a supply of warming drinks.

Stroll Stylishly Through The English Garden

Of course, the English Garden is a must-see here. Munich’s green living room also cuts a more than respectable figure in white. The usual hotspots—the circular Monopteros, the Chinese Tower, and the idyllic Kleinhesseloher See—lose none of their appeal in winter. When the ice cover is thick enough, walkers can even skate on the lake. And if you want to warm up, the Seehaus is the perfect place to retreat and enjoy some refreshments.

Sledding Through Westpark With Gusto

A trip to Westpark is likely to be a little quieter than the always busy English Garden. Here, too, you can go ice skating and even enjoy leisurely sledding on the park’s gently rolling hills and slopes. The photo highlight here is the Thai sala, whose golden columns stand out particularly well against the snow-white background.

Enjoy The View In The Nymphenburg Palace Park

The extensive Nymphenburg Palace Park offers what are probably the most extensive strolling opportunities in the city. Its 200-hectare grounds are just waiting to be explored. The palace itself is a feast for the eyes from every angle, but the grounds also feature the Badenburg Park Palace, the Pagoda Palace, and the Amalienburg Hunting Lodge. And if it all becomes a little too much white bliss, the Botanical Garden is right next door with a warm indoor area and magnificent greenery.
