What is Happening this Spring In Munich

Spring and summer 2026 will bring a whole host of new experiences to Munich: street art in the museum, a milestone anniversary celebration at Theresienwiese, world-class concerts at the Allianz Arena, and innovative hotel concepts. Visitors have plenty to choose from.

Spraying Allowed: The Digital Graffiti Wall at MUCA

The Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art (MUCA) has set up a Digital Graffiti Wall, and it really feels like the real thing. Using an electronic spray can, you get started on a large-format screen; a camera captures your movements in real time, and software translates them into digitally sprayed paint with authentic gradients. Whether you’re an experienced sprayer or a complete beginner, this format offers a playful introduction to street art right inside the museum.

Start of Spring: Alte Utting and Theresienwiese

At the “Alte Utting” in the Schlachthofviertel, the “Blütenflotte” 2026 transforms the former excursion steamboat from mid-March to early April into a spring market above the city’s rooftops. Flowers, herbs, culinary delights, art, and culture, plus the first warm hours of sunshine. A good reason to get out early.

At the same time, the Munich Spring Festival (“Frühlingsfest) at Theresienwiese celebrates its 60th edition and, exceptionally in 2026, runs for three weeks, from mid-April to early May. Two festival tents, over a hundred rides and stalls, as well as an expanded supporting program with additional family days and a leisurely stroll day, kick off the folk festival season.

Year of Culture 2026: Gasteig Anniversary and City Museum

The “Gasteig” already celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025, but the festival program extends through 2026. Specifically, at the temporary venue HP8. Small-scale events, large-scale events, and the first weekend in June is reserved for the finale.

During its major renovation, the Munich City Museum is hosting the interim exhibition “What the City. Perspectives of Munich.” Spanning ten chapters, it explores areas of tension such as safety, poverty, and equality in Munich, complemented by interactive stations. It’s not the usual City Museum experience, but definitely worth seeing.

From March 25 to June 28, the MUCA is presenting “Copy + Paste – A Punk Rock Show,” an exhibition on the visual language of the punk movement. Jackets, posters, spaces, and works by artists such as Jamie Reid, Shepard Fairey, and INVADER shed light on the interplay between punk, art, and society.

Concerts at the Allianz Arena

Since the Olympic Stadium is undergoing renovation in 2026, major open-air concerts are moving to the Allianz Arena. The lineup includes BTS with two Germany-exclusive shows in July, as well as Linkin Park, Foo Fighters, The Weeknd, and Helene Fischer. The arena will thus temporarily take on the role of the city’s central concert venue.

News in the Restaurant and Hotel Industry

At the Bayerischer Hof, starting in April 2026, Michelin-starred chef Kevin Romes will take over the kitchen of the gourmet restaurant Atelier. After an Easter break, the restaurant will reopen in mid-April and focus on further developing the establishment’s culinary direction, drawing on international experience and the venue’s history.

The Dean Munich is also bringing a breath of fresh air: The independent Irish hotel chain is moving into the former Roomers Hotel on Landsberger Straße. Design-oriented rooms, multiple bars, local art, and an open concept for urban travelers.
