A restaurant or a bar? At Sahoi Club, nobody has to choose. And after a year in business, the success of the Japanese izakaya restobar in Berlin proves that the Japanese Izakaya restobar is on the right track. What can guests expect?
Congratulations! The Sahoi Club in Berlin Mitte is celebrating its first anniversary these days. As a mixture of sushi restaurant and izakaya bar, guests can enjoy dozens of small but tasty Japanese dishes and snacks here, while also enjoying the convivial atmosphere of an authentic izakaya bar in the middle of Berlin, along with Asian-inspired cocktails.

Bartender John Lee, who has already shaken his way through A Voce Madison in New York City and Sticks’n’Sushi in Berlin, is responsible for the drinks. The menu includes a “Bajiru” – a gin basil smash based on Roku Gin – or the mocktail “Yuumi” with Genmaicha, Matcha and Yuzu. And, of course, as this is an izakaya bar, Tiger beer is on tap.
Fish has never been fresher
But it’s not all about the drinks. After all, Sahoi Club is also a sushi restaurant. It’s no wonder that the kitchen focuses on first-class, fresh fish. With options including Scottish salmon and bluefin tuna, it’s not easy to choose. Fortunately, Susi offers a wide range of combinations. The homemade sauces are the perfect finishing touch.

From May 1, 2025, there will even be a monthly tuna cutting show. The tuna will be prepared live in front of the guests, with the option of a sake tasting. But even without that, it’s worth coming back. The menu is updated every three months, always with an eye to the seasonality of the ingredients. The founding couple Lani and Khanh also travel to Japan regularly to gather new inspiration for dishes.
But what does the name actually mean? “Our name is derived from the Vietnamese word ‘xa hoi’, which means ‘company’. We swapped the X for an S (for ‘society’) and so Sahoi means ‘coming together’ and ‘reunion’ for us,” explains Khanh. We think it sounds wonderful. Itadakimasu!
