That is a week-long culinary festival which takes place in <a aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/funkygermany.com\/en\/regions\/hesse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hesse<\/a> every year at the end of September, running into the beginning of October.&nbsp;This year, until 6<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;October. Locals and visitors alike will find the menus of the participating restaurants filled with potatoey delights. Some old-school, some creative and new dishes.&nbsp;<strong>In 2020, some 20 restaurants will take part in the festival.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the B\u00e4r family at <em>Zum Gr\u00fcnen Baum<\/em>, this means <strong>preparing a special selection of potato dishes<\/strong>. Speaking potato soup or potato sponge cake, to a potato and nut tart, blending tradition with innovation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>We\u2019re very proud that we cook in a traditional, down-to-earth way<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>says Erika B\u00e4r, knowingly. Nothing on the menu beats the <strong>potato soup<\/strong> for popularity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">But creativity is also key in culinary Hesse<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe potato festival weeks are just great when it comes to really getting to grips with the product\u201d, comments Erika. Her mother, Barbara, is surprised that they keep on coming up with new ideas after so many years. It\u2019s important for both of them to create <strong>dishes that are seasonal<\/strong>. In autumn, ingredients like nuts, pears, apples, plums and pumpkins are on the menu. Much of which comes from their own garden. Even though the area they grow on is small, it\u2019s the diversity which makes the difference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sea buckthorn trees, for example, with their bright orange berries and sour yet ripe flavour. There are only two in the garden and yet their harvest was so plentiful this year that the restaurant is now serving sea buckthorn butter with its fish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important for us to use everything we can from the garden\u201d, is Barbara B\u00e4r\u2019s opinion. Her respect for <strong>seasonal, local produce<\/strong> is clear. For Erika B\u00e4r, the festivals are also an <strong>opportunity for friendly rivalry and a little light competition<\/strong>. The \u201ctogetherness\u201c of the festival generates<strong> inspiration and co-operation<\/strong>, which strengthens the region as a whole. And the guests?
